U.S. stocks were lower on Friday after a plunge in October housing
starts revived talk of a hard landing for the U.S. economy and provided
an excuse for traders to lock in some of the market's recent gains.

Average finishing at another record high level, as tame consumer-price

U.S. stocks mixed; Dow gains, technology weaker

NEW YORK
U.S. stocks were mixed Thursday, with the broad market rising on news
that consumer price inflation eased last month but with bellwether
Applied Materials weighing on technology stocks after its earnings
missed expectations and it lowered its outlook for the current quarter.

Clear Channel sold to buyout group for $18.7 billion

NEW YORK
Clear Channel Communications Inc., the largest U.S. radio-station owner,
on Thursday said it agreed to be acquired by an investor group led by
private-equity firms Thomas H. Lee Partners and Bain Capital Partners
for $18.7 billion in cash.

Economic Report: Inflation eases in October

WASHINGTON
Consumer prices dropped 0.5% in October for the second month in a row,
led by falling prices for gasoline and cars, the Labor Department
reported Thursday.
