Treasurys tumble as March jobs growth exceeds expectations


NEW YORK
Treasury prices closed sharply lower Friday, sending yields higher,
after the U.S. employment report for March showed the economy adding far
more jobs than had been expected, raising concerns that the Federal
Reserve's next move will be to raise interest rates and not cut them.

Economic Report: March payrolls up 180,000; jobless rate ticks down to
4.4%

WASHINGTON
The nation's labor market remained tight in March with few signs of
weakness in hiring, the Labor Department reported Friday.

Currencies: Dollar surges against rival currencies after March jobs
report

NEW YORK
The dollar surged against the other major global currencies Friday,
rallying after the March jobs report showed the U.S. economy adding far
more jobs than expected.

NEW YORK
U.S. stocks were mixed in late morning trade Thursday, as the Dow Jones
Industrial Average broke from a 5-session winning streak, with price
action restrained ahead of the three-day Easter holiday.

Economic Report: U.S. first-time jobless claims up 11,000 in final week
of March

WASHINGTON
The number of Americans signing up for state unemployment benefits crept
back up last week, indicating some slack in the U.S. labor market, Labor
Department data showed Thursday.

SAN FRANCISCO
Crude-oil futures closed lower Wednesday after Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad said he would release 15 U.K. Navy personnel being held
captive by Tehran, apparently ending a diplomatic crisis that had raised
investor concerns about oil supplies in the region.
