5 Militia Killed In Sadr City Stronghold

American forces raided a Sadr City stronghold, killing five suspected
militia fighters in air strikes Saturday. But witnesses also blame U.S.
helicopters for a missile attack on a row of cars lined up at a gas
station; three people were killed.

U.S. stocks end session higher but fall on the week

NEW YORK
U.S. stocks ended a quiet pre-holiday session higher on Friday, even as
the market posted weekly losses, as investors saw weaker-than-expected
existing home sales as boosting chances that the Federal Reserve will
cut interest rates.


Economic Report: U.S. existing home sales drop to 4-year low in April

WASHINGTON
Resales of U.S. homes fell 2.6% in April to a seasonally adjusted
annualized rate of 5.99 million, the slowest pace in four years, the
National Association of Realtors said Friday.

U.S. stocks lost steam on Thursday, as investors consolidated gains from
an early rally sparked by an unexpected surge in new home sales, signs
of a pick-up in business spending.

Economic Report: New-home sales surge 16% in April as prices fall

WASHINGTON
Sales of new U.S. homes unexpectedly surged in April, rising by 16% to a
seasonally adjusted annual rate of 981,000, the Commerce Department said
Thursday.

Economic Report: Durable-goods orders rise healthy 0.6%

WASHINGTON
New orders for U.S.-made durable goods increased 0.6% in April, boosted
by strong demand for metals and capital equipment, the Commerce
Department reported Thursday.
