Tech news Mon, 28 Aug 2006 --- NASA scrubs Tuesday launch plan

Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2006

Atlantis
------------------
With Tropical Storm Ernesto breathing down their necks, NASA managers
gave up on a Tuesday space shuttle launch and prepared to move Atlantis indoors
if the storm continues to threaten. The National Hurricane Center's Monday
morning forecast put Ernesto's track almost directly over Kennedy Space Center
late Wednesday or early Thursday, and listed a nearly 50% chance of tropical
storm force winds just south of the cape.

Precision technology helps combat troops pinpoint enemy
---------------------------------------------
U.S. troops and pilots in Iraq and Afghanistan share live video feeds
from the battlefield to call in precise airstrikes, technology that
barely existed a few years ago but now directs nine of 10 bombs and
missiles dropped. The technology also can limit injuries to civilians
and damage to sensitive sites such as mosques.

Offshore gaming sites not sure USA's worth the risk
---------------------------------------------
Americans continue to gamble in record numbers online, but executives of
the offshore operations that take those bets are exercising caution.
The trepidation of online-betting executives underscores growing concern
that the U.S. government could target more offshore firms after essentially
giving the industry a free pass for several years.

The universe has room for change
