U.S. stocks gain; Altria upgrade, airline deal inspire

NEW YORK
U.S. stocks were higher Wednesday after surprising strength in a
regional survey eased recent concerns about the health of the economy,
with further help from blue-chips Altria and Boeing and news of a
possible merger in the airline sector.
