U.S. stocks down after confidence poll; FOMC minutes ahead

NEW YORK - U.S. stocks were lower Tuesday morning, as traders pored over
an unexpectedly weak August consumer confidence survey that put concerns
about excessive economic slowing back in the foreground.

Economic Report: U.S consumer confidence falls sharply in August

WASHINGTON -- U.S. consumer confidence fell sharply in August, the
Conference Board said Tuesday.

CNOOC profit rises on higher output, crude prices

HONG KONG -- CNOOC Ltd., China's largest offshore oil producer,
reported strong growth in first-half net profit because of higher
crude-oil prices and increased oil and gas production.
