U.S. stocks rally amid global recovery
NEW YORK
U.S. stocks rose sharply on Tuesday, lifting the Dow Jones Industrial
Average by over 100 points earlier, as investors extended a recovery in
Asian markets and the dollar overnight, spurring hopes that markets can
regain a portion of the massive losses suffered over the past week.
Citigroup would get majority stake in Japan brokerage under deal
HONG KONG
In what would rank as the largest acquisition of a Japanese brokerage by
a foreign company, Citigroup Inc. wants to buy a majority stake in
troubled Nikko Cordial, the financial giant said Tuesday.
Currencies: Yen sharply lower as equities recover; dollar off vs. euro
NEW YORK
The yen fell for the first time in four sessions Tuesday, as global
stock markets regained ground after the five-day turmoil.
