U.S. stocks up for sixth day on upbeat results

U.S. STOCKS UP FOR SIXTh DAY ON UPBEAT RESULTS
U.S. stocks jump Tuesday as strong earnings reports from early
bellwethers buoyed hopes that the global business environment
continues to strengthen.

ALCOA SETS A CAUTIOUSLY POSITIVE TONE
Alcoa Inc. kicked off the second-quarter earnings parade Monday with a
modestly bullish summary of the global aluminum market. It was the
note investors both hoped to hear and feared would be missing.

CSX PROFIT JUMPS ON AUTO, METALS DEMANDS
CSX Corp. says quarterly profit jumped by more than a third as the
railroad operator benefitted from a strong rebound in demand for cars
and metals.

INTEL EXPECTED TO POST STRONG SALES GAINS
Intel Corp. is expected to report a 28% jump in revenue for the second
quarter, even as analysts brace for signs of a slowing personal
computer market and weakening tech demand.

STAGNANT PC INDUSTRY ROCKED BY TABLET MARKET
In the young but fast-growing market for tablet computers, a market
propelled by the force of Apple Inc.'s popular iPad, two of the
biggest players from the PC's heyday are mostly standing on the
sidelines, writes Therese Poletti.
