MBIA weighs on sector; AIG sees repayment

Bond-insurance stocks weigh on the financial sector Tuesday after insurer MBIA
Inc. racks up its fifth quarterly loss in the past two years.

SMALL-BUSINESS OWNERS SKEPTICAL OF RECOVERY

Small-business owners haven't seen much improvement in the U.S. economy and
more are expected to cut jobs instead of adding them over the next three
months, a National Federation of Independent Business survey shows.

Barclays says bad-debt charges fell compared to earlier in the year as its net
income fell 54%.

LLOYDS TO CUT ANOTHER 5,000 JOBS

Lloyds Banking Group said Tuesday that it will cut a further 5,000 jobs across
its operations, insurance and mortgage divisions as it continues efforts to
slash costs following the acquisition of HBOS.
