Stocks bounce back; investors sort out subprime fracas

NEW YORK
U.S. stocks managed a partial comeback Wednesday, as hopes that the
second-quarter earnings season will prove strong overshadowed recent
evidence that the deterioration of the subprime mortgage sector has
spread to other arenas of the economy.

Crude oil pares some losses, as crude supplies fall

NEW YORK
Crude-oil futures pared some of their losses Wednesday after the Energy
Department reported an unexpected decline in U.S. crude supplies.

Currencies: Dollar pressure continues as euro, sterling hit highs

NEW YORK
The dollar came under further selling pressure Wednesday, falling to a
fresh 26-year trough against the British pound and hovering near an
all-time low against the euro on concerns about the U.S. subprime
mortgage market and potential economic weakness.
