U.S. stocks rise amid merger news

U.S. stocks were higher Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average
nearing 12,500, after an overnight rebound in Asian markets and a flurry
of merger news helped offset disappointing outlooks from Fedex Corp. and
Palm Inc.
