U.S. stocks trade mixed; Dow dragged lower by GE, Home Depot

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks traded mixed Friday as uninspiring quarterly
earnings from General Electric Co. and a broker downgrade for Home Depot
Inc. weighed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, with retail sales and
consumer sentiment reports another focus for investors.

WASHINGTON -- The sharp drop in gasoline prices drove the nominal value
of U.S. retail sales down by 0.4% in September, the Commerce Department
