U.S. stocks rally; Dow posts triple-digit gains to new record
NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks rallied Thursday on stronger-than-expected
earnings from McDonald's Corp., Costco Wholesale Corp. and Yum Brands
Inc, with a batch of new orders for Boeing Co. helping propel the Dow
Jones Industrial Average to a new closing high.

The Fed: Growth continues at varied pace, Beige Book says

strength and weakness, but, in general, economic activity continues to
expand, according to the latest Federal Reserve 'Beige Book' survey of
current economic conditions released on Thursday.

Manufacturers expect slowdown, chilled by housing and autos
SAN FRANCISCO -- U.S. manufacturers are expecting slower growth in the
months ahead, as pullbacks in the housing and auto sectors weigh on new
orders, shipments and investment plans, the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI
said Thursday.

Overseas gains drive Yum's quarterly profit; shares rise
LOS ANGELES -- Emboldened by huge growth in mainland China, Yum Brands
Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive David Novak said Thursday that he
wants to make the company's KFC outlets as ubiquitous in that nation as
McDonald's outlets are in the United States.

Frozen orange-juice futures close nearly 17% higher
SAN FRANCISCO -- The price of the benchmark frozen orange-juice futures
contract closed almost 17% higher Thursday after the U.S. government
said that Florida's orange production for the 2006-07 season will be
lower than last year's crop, which suffered in the wake of Hurricane
Wilma.
