U.S. stocks solidly higher as energy sector surges

All three major indexes hit new intraday highs for 2009, as a report of robust
economic growth in Japan sparked a rally in energy and materials firms.

GOLD FUTURES SOAR ABOVE $1,130 AS DOLLAR FALLS

Gold futures play off further weakness in the U.S. dollar, lifting the December
contract to a fresh high above $1,130 an ounce, while other metals futures do
