Verizon's quarterly earnings drop 30%

Verizon reports a 10% decline in third-quarter profit as consumers and
businesses reduced spending on wireline-phone service, taking some of
the edge
off continuing strong growth in wireless for the blue chip. It retains
the top spot in the U.S. among wireless subscribers served.
GOLD FUTURES GAIN AS DOLLAR WEAKENS
Gold futures edge higher, as the dollar fell against other major
currencies boosting the investment appeal of the precious metal.
CHINA PBOC OFFICIAL DOWNPLAYS DOLLAR REMARKS
A researcher at the People's Bank of China downplays comments that the
Chinese central bank should rebalance its reserves away from the U.S.
dollar, after the remarks send the greenback plunging.
