European shares post sharp gains as banks advance

European shares climb, with banks some of the strongest performers after
reports that UBS may avoid a fine from the U.S. and following earnings
from HSBC Holdings and Barclays.

HSBC, BARCLAYS HELP FTSE 100 BACK TO OCTOBER LEVEL

London shares gain on Monday, boosted by earnings-related gains from
banking giant HSBC and rival Barclays.

SHANGHAI STOCKS JUMP ON DATA, AGAIN LEADING ASIA

Asian markets end mostly higher Monday, with resource and shipping
shares jumping in line with commodity prices.


CASH FOR CLUNKERS DRIVES FORD SALES HIGHER

Ford Motor Co. on Monday thanked the popular Cash
for Clunkers program for triggering a wave of buyers and helping the
automaker deliver its first sales increase in almost two years.

MANUFACTURING SECTOR REVVING UP WORLDWIDE

Across the globe, manufacturing firms are digging out from the worst
recession in a lifetime, according to purchasing managers surveys
recently released.
