AIG QUESTIONS REMAIN DESPITE BIG RUN-UP

Despite outsized gains for American International Group Inc.'s common stock in
recent weeks, the performance of its debentures and preferred stock suggest
that more sophisticated investors are unsure about its future, according to a
Dow Jones Newswires report.

CHINA BANK LENDING REPORTED SINKING IN AUGUST

Chinese banks continue to slow their lending in August, according to reported
estimates, with concern of tighter credit conditions helping send shares in
Shanghai and Hong Kong lower.

GOLD AT $960 AS DOLLAR SLIPS; COPPER, SILVER RALLY

Gold futures reclaim $960 an ounce while the copper and silver contracts both
rally more than 3%.

FDIC'S 'PROBLEM LIST' OF TROUBLED BANKS TOPS 400

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. says more lenders ran into financial
trouble during the second quarter as the recession continued to saddle banks
with soured loans.
