Spotlight on Goldman as commodities hearings begin
Goldman Sachs, under fire for reaping record trading profits in the
teeth of the financial crisis, is now fighting to defend one of its
major sources of
revenue -- commodities trading -- as regulators consider setting
limits on Wall Street speculators.
CFTC CONSIDERING STRICT LIMITS IN ENERGY TRADING
Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler says that
the futures market regulator "must seriously consider setting strict
position limits in the energy market."
OFFICE DEPOT POSTS WIDER-THAN-EXPECTED LOSS
Office Depot Inc. reports wider-than-expected second-quarter loss as
consumers and businesses cut purchases of computers, furniture and
other big-ticket items.
AMGEN REPORTS HIGHER EARNINGS, GLAXO DEAL
Amgen reports higher second-quarter earnings, due in part to a variety of
charges and gains taken during the quarter and in the same period the
previous year.
