Bear Stearns' Collapse Rattles Markets

Asian stocks plunged and the dollar sank to a new low on news that
JPMorgan Chase was buying troubled U.S. investment bank Bear Stearns,
signaling to investors the depths of the credit crisis. Oil prices in
Asian have risen to a record level.

China's appointed governor of Tibet says 16 people have died in violence
that started in the region's capital. The government blames the
bloodshed squarely on "thugs" acting on the Dalai Lama's orders. Exile
groups say as many as 80 have been killed.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said new steps announced by the
