U.S. stocks off lows on manufacturing data

NEW YORK
U.S. stocks recovered from an early steep fall in volatile trading on
Thursday, as news that the manufacturing sector grew in February helped
offset nervousness from Asian markets as well as concerns about
distressed lenders and the housing market, which had all rekindled the
heavy selling pressure seen two days ago.

Economic Report: ISM says factory activity rose in Feb.

WASHINGTON
The nation's manufacturers increased production in February, surprising
economists and lifting Wall Street's gloom.
