U.S. stocks end higher; oil rallied ahead of Fed

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks closed higher Tuesday, benefiting from rallying
oil prices and energy shares that helped offset a disappointing outlook
from 3M Co., and caution ahead of a Federal Reserve interest rate
decision.
