U.S. stocks trade mixed; DuPont earnings please, TI disappoints

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks traded mixed Tuesday as a Federal Reserve
decision on interest rates neared, with investors weighing strong
quarterly result from DuPont against a weak sales outlook from chip
maker Texas Instruments.

DuPont profit gains on higher prices; sees housing, auto slowing

NEW YORK -- DuPont swung to a better-than-expected profit in the third
quarter, as the 11th-straight quarter of higher prices and stronger
overseas sales outpaced rising raw material costs at the country's
second-largest chemical company.

BP profit falls 4% on flat production, rising taxes

LONDON -- BP PLC reported a 4% third-quarter profit decline Tuesday,
hurt by the fallout from a broken pipeline in Alaska, an explosion at a
Texas refinery and rising taxes in Britain.

Texas Instruments profit, sales up; sales forecast is weak

SAN FRANCISCO - Texas Instruments Inc. late Monday said its quarterly
profit rose 11%, helped by stronger sales of its chips used in cell
phones and other electronics equipment, but also signaled that its
business is slowing.
